Gediminas Grinius is a Lithuanian ultra-distance trail runner who became the Ultra-Trail World Tour Champion in 2016. Born in 1979 in Lithuania, Grinius served as a military officer in Iraq before turning to ultra-running as therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder following his deployment.
Grinius emerged on the international trail circuit in 2014 with a fifth-place finish at UTMB, then broke through in 2015 with wins at Transgrancanaria (14:23:37) and Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji (20:40:30). His 2016 season produced second-place finishes at Transgrancanaria, Lavaredo Ultra Trail, and UTMB Mont-Blanc, the combination of which earned him the Ultra-Trail World Tour championship for the year.
He has continued to compete at the highest level into the 2020s, with wins at the Vermont 100 (16:01:49) and Wasatch Front 100 (20:55:31) in 2019. Based in Vilnius, Lithuania, Grinius represents Vibram and Goldwin and continues to race the international ultra circuit, including UTMB events and longer 100-mile races across multiple continents.
